How does Secret Word work?
The numbers, colors, and arrows have the same meaning: the distance from your guess to the Secret Word in the alphabet.
Colors
The colors indicate how close you are to the Secret Word:
- Red → Your guess is far from the correct word. Try a word that starts with a letter farther away in the alphabet.
- Yellow → You are getting closer! Try words with letters closer alphabetically.
- Green → Great! Your guess is very close to the Secret Word.
Numbers and Arrows
The numbers represent the distance between your guess and the Secret Word in the list of words in that category.
- There will always be two equal numbers, one indicating the direction above the alphabet and the other below.
- The upward arrow means the Secret Word is later than your guess in the alphabet.
- The downward arrow means the Secret Word is earlier than your guess in the alphabet.
Examples:
Let’s suppose we have the Colors category with the following list of words:
- Yellow
- Blue
- White (Secret Word)
- Caramel
- Golden
If the Secret Word is White (0), the numbers and arrows would look like this:
- Blue → distance 1 from the Secret Word, downward arrow.
- Caramel → distance 1 from the Secret Word, upward arrow.
- Yellow → distance 2 from the Secret Word, downward arrow.
- Golden → distance 2 from the Secret Word, upward arrow.
Remember that each category has a large list of words, so the distance between words can be big. However, the numbers are not random—they represent how many words exist between your guess and the Secret Word.
Erased Letters
The erased letters are an extra hint!
- The game automatically removes letters that can no longer be the starting letter of the Secret Word, based on your guesses.
- This works together with the arrows, colors, and numbers to help you find the answer.
- If only one letter remains lit, it means the Secret Word starts with that letter!
